Seattle Day One

Our day began early, at 6:30am here, with a quick breakfast and then we headed out the door to go whale watching!!!  I have been so excited to do this ever since I found out I couldn't in Maine, but that's another story!  We drove north to Anacortes, WA, which is just about 1.5 hours north of Seattle.  We got to experience big city traffic, most of which was not the direction we were going, thankfully!  We arrived in Anacortes and headed to our boat.

 Note the cloudy skies!!!  It was about 60 degrees when we hopped on board!  The crew was all very nice, and Luke met a couple that was into photography, he was sporting a lens about 3 feet long, so Luke took the opportunity to get to know him.  Thankfully, as we headed north towards Canada, the skies began to clear, and we got some spotting of Orca whales!!

After spending about 45 minutes seeing whales, we figured there were about 50 different whales we saw.  Not many came up close to the boat, though.  It was then time to head in, and on the way we passed a few harbor seals lounging in the sun:

After our day on the water, we were ready to head back to Seattle.  Our original plan was to go the Space Needle, but increasingly cloudy skies in Seattle were hindering that.  So, we decided to swing by Deception Pass on the way home.  It was only a few miles out of the way, and well worth the view!

We were able to walk the whole way across the bridge to capture some great pictures.  I was a bit timid of the heights, so I stayed closer to solid land.  Finally, we headed back to Seattle, and went to The Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner.  Luke was so excited to go there!!  The food was really good, and we were able to plan our day tomorrow, which includes the Space Needle.

I did a little bit of research about Grey's Anatomy, and, although it isn't filmed here, Seattle Grace Mercy West hospital is fashioned after a local hospital, Harborview Medical Center.  Luke humored me and we drove past.  Tomorrow we may try to find Meredith's house, which is somewhere around this place!

Now back at the hotel, it may only be 8pm, but my body sure thinks it's later than that!  Off to bed with plenty of sights to see tomorrow, including Pike's Place Market, The Space Needle, the original Starbucks, the Crab Shack for dinner, and the Top Pot for some doughnuts!  Good Night, All!
